Practical tips & transport
Getting between venues
- On foot: All hotels listed are within 8–22 minutes of both venues. The most pleasant walking route between venues is via Lungotevere (riverside) or through the Trastevere neighbourhood.
- Taxi / Uber: A taxi between the Vatican entrance and Palazzo Salviati costs approximately €8–12 (5–8 min). Rome taxis have fixed fares from airports; meters apply for urban journeys.
- Bus: Tram 8 and bus 23 connect Trastevere with the Lungotevere areas. Bus 64 and 40 serve the Vatican.
- Metro: The Ottaviano–San Pietro stop (Line A) is convenient for the Vatican area. No direct metro to Palazzo Salviati; surface transport is recommended.
Booking recommendations
- Book as early as possible — November is still a busy period in Rome, particularly around major events.
- Rates at all properties are exclusively available via direct booking or standard platforms (Booking.com, Hotels.com, Expedia). THOR does not hold a room block at any property.
- Request a quiet room when booking — both the Vatican area and Trastevere can be noisy at night on weekends (9 November is a Sunday).
- Confirm check-in time in advance if arriving directly from the conference; most hotels offer luggage storage.
Dining near the venues
- Trastevere is one of Rome's finest dining districts, with a high density of trattorias, wine bars, and Roman cuisine restaurants suitable for informal group dinners.
- The Prati neighbourhood (adjacent to the Vatican) also offers a strong selection of restaurants and is convenient for evenings after Day 1.
- Conference meals and catering arrangements will be communicated separately by the THOR–CNS organising committee.
